Here are some speaking cue cards with example answers to help you speak effectively in your IELTS exam. Prompt Question Template Describe a short journey that you disliked. You should say: Where you went? Who you went with? What you did? and explain why you disliked this journey. Example Answer: A journey inside a city like Mumbai is really troublesome if you do not have any?private vehicle. On the other side, traffic congestion also makes journeys boring and dull. So, I always have an unpleasant experience while?moving in this city. I am happy that I could describe one of such events?here. I went to my university located in the central part of Mumbai city. My?residence is a bit far away from the university. So, I need to ride on public?transport every day to reach the university on time. But most of the days, I?make it late for the class. Though this is a short trip, often it becomes longer for?the delays on the road. Like the other days, I went to university and the trip was short. But I could not like the journey for some reason. The bus I rode on was crowded and I could not manage a seat to sit. Usually, I move to the university alone. I do not have any classmates or friends?living near me. In fact, my residence is in one corner of the city and it is a 15-?minute journey from the nearest bus stop to the university. So, I move there?alone. Sometimes, my younger brother comes with me (who is also a college?student) to attend his college classes. But this is not a routine for us. If he has?to attend classes early in the morning, he accompanies me or I accompany?him. But on regular days, I have to make a solo trip to my university. On this day, I was alone and started to catch a class before 9.00 am. Though I was?able to reach the university before the class hour, the experience was?unpleasant for me. Moving alone, particularly for females is really hard in this city of Mumbai. So,?as a female, it is the same for me every day. I have to face various types of?discrimination while I am on the street. Riding on public transports is also?harassing for me. On the day, I waited for the bus at the local bus stop. The bus?arrived late. It was supposed to arrive at 7.45 am. But it was late. The bus?made 20 minutes late. So, I had to wait while the waiting queue increased.?There were some people before me on the line and they rushed when the bus arrived. So, I was unable to manage my seat in the desired place. I had to take?the seat at a corner and it was a great trouble for me to get down from the bus?bypassing a large crowd of men. I did not like the journey for some reason. Firstly, the bus was late. I planned?to complete an assignment after reaching university. But I could not?complete that. Further, some of the passengers on the bus tried to occupy my?seat. They failed as I protested against them loudly inside the bus. It was out of?my nature to shout loudly and I had to do that only to arrange my seat on the?bus. Besides, I moved hurriedly for the university with the aim to attend the?class. But the class did not take place at the time. The teacher shifted the class?to another date for his physical illness. In fact, I had to struggle a lot to reach?the university but everything was in vain. I had obstacles from the beginning of?the journey and thus I could not like the journey at all on that day.? Describe your favourite Restaurant. You should say: Where it is located? What the restaurant looks like? What kinds of foods and beverages it offers? and explain what makes this restaurant so special to you. Example Answer Mistral is a restaurant located in Ibn Battuta Gate in Dubai and this is one of?the finest places for dining in the country. The restaurant is located on the side?of a busy marketplace and always is crowded with visitors from home and?abroad. The restaurant staff is welcoming all the visitors and guests?cordially. The entire atmosphere is filled with the smells of spices which are?alluring for all. People could have their breakfast, lunch, brunch, or dinner and?the meals are prepared with the local cuisine of Arabia. Besides, the restaurant?also allows visitors to taste the fresh foods from the seafood fare.? The restaurant looks like a mini market place beside a large market for its?crowd inside the big place. The place inside is a bit dark yet, the restaurant is?preferred by almost all types of visitors here only for the delicious foods and?drinks. The seating arrangements are admirable while the serving techniques?are also praiseworthy. Amid the crowd, the visitors do not feel alienated rather?all of them enjoy their respective meals and drinks. This is a very good place for?dining with family members and taste the traditional tastes of Arabia. The?restaurant offers different types of foods and drinks to the visitors like the sumptuous breakfast buffet, lunch buffet centering Arabic cuisine, hot and cold Arabic mezze, seafood buffet for dinner, etc. Besides, there are plenty of entertainment areas for the kids during the stay at the restaurant. The foods and drinks at the restaurant are up to the mark and satisfactory. The?serving quality is splendid. The restaurant serves clients with different sorts?of local and traditional foods in line with seafood. Besides, there are different?sorts of drinks are also available here. The all-day dining station is filled with?extraordinary foods and fruits. The seafood collection is adorable while the?meats are cooked very well that they almost melt in the mouth. The desserts?made in the restaurant is considered the best one in the country. Moreover,?the children section is also wonderful and enriched with attractive toys and?attentive staff. The visitors can order their foods after a great variety of foods?and they need to wait for a few moments for the food to be prepared.? This is a special restaurant for me for some special reasons. I like the seafood?and drinks here most and they are really praiseworthy. Often I take my buffet?seafood dinner here and the price is also reasonable for me. When I am with?my kids, I allow them to play inside the children?s room and I do not need to?worry about them at all. Talk about a place near water that you have visited. You should say: Where it was? Why you went there?? What you did there? and say whether you enjoyed it. We went to Greece?for a honeymoon and had spent 15 days together in the country. We traveled to?different parts of the country and enjoyed numerous historical structures and?monuments. But the day beside the Myrtos Beach is still vivid in my memory. The commoners of the area said that the beach was one of the wonderful?beaches in the world for its special turquoise water and the breathtaking?sunset views. The entire beach was filled with white pebbles and the serene?atmosphere truly attracted us. The beach lied between the feet of two?mountains and geographically located in the north-west of Kefalonia Island.?Thank you for honoring me with the question. Walking through the beach provides a feeling of freshness. The gentle breeze is?also enjoyable.?We did a large number of things besides the shoreline and enjoyed doing so.?The beach made us crazy with its stunning look and natural beauties. The deep?blue sky, the turquoise water, bathing in the water, water sports with my wife,?clicking photos and posing for them, running across the shoreline, waiting for?the next wave to sink under, etc. were the common forms of entertainment for?us. Besides, we took seafood from nearby restaurants. But we had fun?during the bath most. The water was fresh and crystal clear. I also have bottled some water as a souvenir for me. Besides, I wanted to surf the waves but my wife did not agree because of less water depth. The photos were amazing, especially the sunset scenes were superb! If I knew that you would ask me about the trip, I would have brought some of the images for you!? Ahh!! The days were great!! I truly enjoyed the trip and it was worthy of the?efforts I invested in arranging it. We saved money for three months to get on?board for the trip. Besides, budgeting was the most important factor for me as?I was the only wage earner for my family. The expenses were high in my city,?Bacoor in the Philippines, and I had to cut several expenses to save the money.?Thereby, we planned to make the honeymoon a perfect one. I think it is well?known to you that honeymoons are done once in a lifetime and thus it should?be done perfectly. We had enjoyed almost all the available amenities in Greece?and particularly by the beachside. The trip will be ever reminding me and?my wife and thank you for the chance to recalling the memories of those days.? Describe a tourist attraction that you have visited. You should say: Where it was? When you went there? Who were with you? what you saw and did there as a tourist. Example Answer Greece is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world and a large?number of global people visit the country for enjoyment. In last summer, I?went in Lindos in Greece for some business purposes and enjoyed my stay?there. I am a businessman based in Malaysia and I deal with clothing. I have two?stores in a local shopping mall in the capital and also own a factory. Now I am?planning to expand my business internationally. To expand my business, I am?traveling to different parts of the European continent and seeking suitable?options for my business. As part of the business expansion, I went into Lindos?as this is a tourist spot in Greece and constantly visited by global visitors. Besides, the location has some historical importance as well. A notable number?of excavations had taken place here and some relics of historical importance?have been found after the excavations. Considering all the issues, I picked the?location as a potential place for my garment business expansion and also?planned to open a branch at the local shopping center.?I went there in May of 2016. In fact, I could not manage the time before the?beginning of summer. I could have started my business tour earlier, but I was?unable. The rush in the business was the key cause of the delay. I have several?employees at my retail selling points and they look after the retail business?smoothly. All of them are well mannered and reliable. But I have to take care?of the production of the attires. I have to deal with the fabric dealers, care for?the factory employees, train them how to make the finishing to look perfect,?check the quality of the clothing, contact with the other dealers who sell my?products into other parts of the country, liaison with the Asian clients who?import my clothing in their countries and much more. I have to handle?everything all by myself. Besides, my wife is unable to control all the things and?I, in fact, cannot rely on her that she could be able to run things smoothly?like me. So, I was late for a business trip.?The trip was accompanied by my wife, Xin Hi. She is a business graduate and?we have been married for around one year. But unfortunately, I could not?manage time for our honeymoon and she was somewhat upset about that. So, I also planned to take her with me. In fact, I wanted to perform both the tasks through the trip. Firstly, I wanted to make a business trip and at the same time, I planned to spend time with my adorable wife at the tourist spots of the country. The plan worked well. Since Lindos was a tourist spot in Greece, my wife became happy as she had the chance to visit the spots. On the other side, I also performed all the necessary meetings with some of the potential dealers and visited the proposed branch sites. I took my wife with all the meetings and trips so that she does not feel bored alone. Since the entire location was charming, the meetings were held in a congenial environment and there had no chances of boredom for us. As a tourist, I enjoyed the trips amid of the scenic and historic locations of?Lindos. I went to the beach and enjoyed swimming with my wife. Moreover,?the party, which was organized by the trip organizers, was outstanding. When?the meetings were done with the clients, both of us went to the beautiful?beach. The night views are breathtaking. Besides, the sunrise and the sunset?scenes were outstanding to me. In fact, I waited eagerly to watch the sunrise?from the beach. The barbeque party on the beach was another attraction for?us. The party ended with a cultural function. Though it was a business trip for?me, the overall events that took place during the trips were terrific for us. My?wife became highly satisfied with the trip and everything is set for me to open?a clothing branch in Lindos. If everything goes well, I will open the branch there?by next month. Part 1: Introduction and Interview [This part of the test begins with the examiner introducing himself or herself and checking the candidate’s identification. It then continues as an interview.] Topic: Swimming
Q: Can you swim? Yes I can. I learnt at school when I was about 7 years old. Swimming lessons were compulsory at our school, like most schools I think.
Q: Are there many places to swim near you? Yes, there are a few public swimming pools. There is the main indoor one at a big sports complex in the center of town. There are also a couple of outdoor ones, but you can only use them in summer as it is too cold in winter. One is a big one in a park, the other is a much smaller one.
Q: Do you think everyone should learn to swim? Of course, I think it's very important. Firstly, you spend much of your life on holiday by water, for example, when you go to the beach on holiday, so you won't be able to enjoy yourself with your friends if you can't swim. Also, for safety reasons it's very important. You often hear about sad accidents involving young children so it's very important. https://ieltstutorials.online/sample-questions/cue-card https://www.ieltsbuddy.com/ielts-speaking-samples.html
